Christian essentials

Since the Christian church began 2,000 years ago, believers have held to these core truths.

The Lord Jesus Christ Himself, along with these biblical truths, form the foundation of our faith.

1. The Bible – God’s Word, Final and Sufficient

Christians believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God—fully trustworthy,

without error, and our final authority for faith and life.
We don’t add to it or replace it with human ideas.

Scripture alone is our highest authority.

2. The Trinity – One God in Three Persons

There is one God who eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Three distinct Persons, yet one God, equal in power and glory.

This is the consistent teaching of both Old and New Testaments.

3. Jesus Christ – Fully God and Fully Man

Jesus is not a created being. He is fully God and fully human.

He existed from eternity.

He created all things.

He took on human flesh.

He lived a sinless life.

He died for our sins and rose again physically.

If Jesus is not God, there is no gospel.

4. Humanity’s Sinfulness

All people have sinned and fallen short of God’s standard.
Sin is not only what we do – it is what we are by nature.

Because of this, we cannot save ourselves or earn God’s favour.

5. Salvation – By Grace Alone, Through Faith Alone, In Christ Alone

We are saved entirely by God’s grace, not by our own good works.

Grace alone: Salvation is God’s gift.

Faith alone: We receive this gift by trusting in Christ, not by earning it.

Christ alone: His finished work on the cross is our only hope.

Good works follow salvation, but they do not cause it.

6. The Death and Resurrection of Jesus

Jesus died on the cross as our substitute, taking the judgment we deserved.
Because He was sinless, His sacrifice was accepted by God.

He physically rose from the dead.
If He did not rise, our faith is empty and we are still in our sins.

7. The Work of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit: convicts us of sin, gives new spiritual life

brings us to faith in Christ

lives within every believer

helps us grow in holiness

gives gifts to build the church

Christian living is impossible without the Spirit.

8. The Church – The Body of Christ

All true believers, everywhere in the world, belong to one family:
the Church, the Body of Christ.

The church is not a building, but God’s people.

9. Jesus Christ Is the Only Way

In a world with many religions and philosophies, Jesus said plainly:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

There is no other Saviour and no other path to God.

10. The Second Coming of Christ

Jesus will return personally, bodily, and in glory to judge the living and the dead and to establish His kingdom in fullness.

History is moving toward His return.
